Connecticut’s Polish Day at the Capitol event was founded by former State Representative Stanley J Krawiec (D-26).

“Thirty-four years ago, my Dad, the late State Representative Stanley J. Krawiec from New Britain’s 26th district, initiated the celebration of the Polish Constitution of 1791, an event to be held at the State Capitol. He was proud of his Polish heritage and to serve his country in WWII,” said Deborah Krawiec.

The tradition of celebrating Polish Day at the Capitol was continued by former State Representative Anthony Tercyak (D-26), former State Representative Peter Tercyak (D-26) and now Rep DeFronzo.

“The Polish American community has helped shape the identity of New Britain and Connecticut,” said Rep DeFronzo. “I am proud of my Polish heritage, and Polish Day is a moment to celebrate our past and ensure the traditions and values continue to thrive.”

“This year’s event commemorates the 234th anniversary of the Polish Constitution,” Krawiec added, “a day in history that pays tribute to the Poles tenacity in their pursuit to live as a free nation; and acts as a reminder of how fleeting democracies can be and how hard fought the battle is to regain and maintain freedom.”
