The New Britain Museum of American Art is hosting a Juneteenth Access for All Community Day, inviting people to, “Join us for the NBMAA’s 24th Annual Juneteenth Celebration!”
“This day-long event features artistic performances, music, in-gallery experiences, and of course artmaking,” the Museum says. “Shop from local Black-owned businesses, support independent artists, and grab a bite from regional food trucks.”
The Museum says that the event has, “Free Admission from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.!“
The schedule of events includes,
11 a.m. | Music with DJ MDot
11:45 a.m. | New Britain High School Drumline
12 p.m. | Welcome, flag raising, and anthem sung by Briana Maia
12:45 p.m. | Dejave Dance
1:15 p.m. | Mayor’s remarks and Keynote by Ezinne Emeribe-Rowland
1:30 p.m. | Magic Soul Academy – Showstyle Drumline & Danceline
1:50 p.m. | Tang Sauce
2:20 p.m. | Sweetie Belle and OneSound
2:50 p.m. | Closing remarks
The Museum adds that, “Our adult visitors are invited to continue the celebration with cocktails and music at the Museum in the evening,” at its Juneteenth After Party. That event, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, for which the Museum is selling tickets, is to feature:
-Opening Act: JT Moore – 45 minute comedy set
-DJ Ty
-Closing Act: Ysanne & the Lotus Blues
The Museum says it, “was one of the earliest institutions, if not the first, to hold a Juneteenth celebration in New Britain. In 2001, in collaboration with its African American Advisory Committee, the Museum worked with New Britain residents to host a celebration for the holiday.”
