McNamara Endorsed by National Democratic Municipal Officials Organization

The national Democratic Municipal Officials Organization (DMO) has announced that it has endorsed Ald John McNamara (D-4), the New Britain City Council’s Majority Leader, for re-election this year, as he seeks his second term on the Council.

“New Britain and municipal governments across the country are addressing aging infrastructures, the need for affordable housing and school funding issues,” McNamara said, welcoming the endorsement. “We face funding cuts and harmful policies from a Republican administration and Congress. DMO is a resource in these uncertain times to exchange ideas and solutions with other elected officials in the effort to sustain and build healthy communities.”

The Democratic Municipal Officials says it, “is a national association of elected Mayors, City Council Members, School Board Members, and other municipal leaders who identify with the values of the Democratic Party.”

McNamara noted that he, “participated in a DMO Leadership Council last year at the Democratic National Convention and serves as a Connecticut ambassador for the organization.”

McNamara is one of four Connecticut candidates to have received the endorsement of the DMO in the 2025 elections, an endorsement that came ahead of the primary in which Democratic voters in Ward 4 will determine their two Democratic Council candidates for the November general election.

Ald McNamara and former Council member Luz Ortiz-Luna are the two candidates endorsed by the New Britain Democratic Party to represent Ward 4 on the Council. Each of the city’s five wards are represented by three Council members, called “Alderpersons”, but each party is only allowed to nominate two candidates in each ward.

Ward 4 represents most of the northern parts of the city and includes:

  • Voting district 12, whose regular voting place is St Francis School.
  • Voting district 13, whose temporary voting place is St Francis School.
  • Voting district 14, whose regular voting place is Pulaski Middle School.

Ald Neil Connors (D-4) is also running for the nomination, as a petitioning candidate.

Early voting is already open in the primary is underway at the New Britain Senior Center and CCSU Memorial Hall. Future early voting is on:

  • September 5th, from 10:00am to 6:00pm.
  • September 6th, from 10:00am to 6:00pm.
  • September 7th, from 10:00am to 6:00pm.

Primary day is September 9, 2025, from 6:00am to 8:00pm, at voters’ regular or temporary voting places, for Democratic registered voters who have not already voted by primary day.

As in the general election, voters may only vote for two candidates in the primary.
