2019 Dożynki Festival Coming Up
As the summer winds into its final weeks, New Britain is about to enjoy its traditional Polish Harvest Festival, the New Britain Dożynki.
The 2019 New Britain Dożynki Festival will be held on August 24th and 25th.
“Dożynki is the traditional Polish harvest celebration, giving thanks for a bountiful harvest,” Festival organizers say. The 2019 Festival is the thirty-ninth Dożynki in New Britain.
The Festival is a vibrant cultural celebration, with music, dancing and, of course, delicious food.
New Britain is widely recognized as one of the key centers of Polish culture in the United States, and people travel from across Connecticut and the larger region to attend cultural events in New Britain and visit Little Poland on Broad Street.
The Festival begins with celebration of Mass at 11:00am on Saturday, August 24th. Mass is to be celebrated by Archbishop Leonard Blair.
“Opening ceremonies follow the Mass,” organizers have said, “followed by a vibrant celebration of Polish culture.”
Festival organizers say that the program for Saturday, August 24th, from 10:00am to 10:00pm includes:
- Mass at 11:00am
- “Polish School and Scouts – scholarship presentation – choirs”
- The folklore dance group, “Orlęta”
- The Vademecum Band
- A dance party with music presented by the DJs Broad Street Boys
The Festival continues from 12:00pm to 10:00pm on Sunday, August 25th with the band, To My and an antique car show.
“This year’s Harvest Festival celebrates the 125th anniversary of Sacred Heart Parish in New Britain and 60th anniversary of the John Paul II Polish Language School,” Festival organizers say.
The Dożynki festival is held at Falcon Field at 721 Farmington Avenue in New Britain.
“Let’s continue this beautiful tradition!” event organizers exclaim.
