Cardoso Reportedly Granted Permanent Residency

A longtime New Britain resident, who had been facing deportation, has reportedly been granted permanent residency in the United States.

“Mariano Cardoso Sr. was granted PERMANENT RESIDENCY!” said the Facebook site “We are Mariano“. That site was set up to support Cardoso in his struggle against deportation.

Mariano Cardoso. Sr. has lived in the United States for nearly thirty years, building a life and raising his family. “We are Mariano” says that,

He is well-known at St Mary’s, the church he attends. He has made a home here in New Britain. He and his wife raised a daughter and two sons here. He does not have a criminal record. He pays his taxes and is well-known within the community.

In 2017, Cardoso was facing an imminent deportation order in a time when the national government has been in the grip of Republican President Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant politics.

The deportation order was for December 15, 2017. That very day, a stay of the deportation order was granted, after intervention by United States Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and United States Representative Elizabeth Esty (D-5).

“Mariano STAYS home!” the “We are Mariano” site said. “Thank you everyone for your continuous support over the past two years. The power of the people is something incredible to behold!”

Cardoso offered thanks to the many people who had supporting he and his family during the ordeal.
