Lacourciere Announces State Representative Campaign
Democrat Richard Lacourciere has announced that he is running for State Representative in the Twenty-Fourth Assembly District.
“I’ve made the decision to run for State Representative in my home in the 24th district,” Lacourciere said online.
The Twenty-Fourth Assembly District is currently represented by State Rep. Rick Lopes (D-24). Lopes has announced that he is running for State Senate in the Sixth Senatorial District in the 2020 elections.
The City Council’s Democratic Leader, Ald. Manny Sanchez (D-AL), has already announced his candidacy to be the State Representative in the Twenty-Fourth District.
Sanchez and Lacourciere ran together for City Council in the 2019 city elections. Sanchez was re-elected as an At-Large Council member. Lacourciere ran unsuccessfully to represent the First Ward, which is generally regarded as a difficult district for Democrats to win in city elections.
Lacourciere has announced that his campaign “kickoff party” on March 7, 2020 is, “Hosted by and in the home of former Majority leader David Pudlin.” Former State Rep. David Pudlin (D-24) represented the Twenty-Fourth Assembly District.
The Twenty-Fourth Assembly District includes the West End, Willow Brook and southern East Side neighborhoods in New Britain and the southwestern part of Newington.
Official major party endorsement conventions are in May. Any primaries for party nominations would be August 11, 2020.
The elections for state offices this year are held at the same time as the election for President and Congress. That general election is on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
