Proposal Would Increase Sewer Fee 3.9%
The New Britain City Council is to consider a proposal from the Stewart-appointed Board of Public Works to increase the city sewer rate fee by 3.9%.
The proposal would increase the rate from $4.42 per one hundred cubic feet of water used in the budget year ending June 30, 2020 to $4.59 per one hundred cubic feet for the new budget year beginning July 1st.
The 3.9% increase would appear to bring the sewer rates to 61.6% higher under the administration of Republican Mayor Erin Stewart.
The sewer fees are charged along with New Britain water bills.
Stewart’s 2020-2021 Proposed Budget says that the sewer use fees fund the Sewer Operating Fund, the purpose for which is the city’s “sanitary and storm drain systems,” including, “180 miles of sanitary sewers,” as well as, “for the treatment of the sanitary sewers and operation of a pumping station.”
The proposal is on the agenda of the April 22, 2020 Council meeting.
