City to Honor Nine Prominent Black Community Members
Sam Simmons, Ethan Welsh, Jason Gibson, Ernestine Faienza, Mary Floyd, James Jones, Dana Smith, Quentin McDougal and Elmer Nixon are to be honored in a city hall ceremony in recognition of Black History Month.
The City Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities and Mayor Erin E. Stewart announced that an exhibit honoring the prominent Black community members will be unveiled this Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at 6:00pm.
Noting that it is the third time that the event is being held, City Human Rights Officer Jerrell Hargraves added, “I’m glad this has turned into an annual event. Oftentimes, people work goes unnoticed, but this event celebrates their accomplishments.”
The city says that the public is invited to attend, adding that, “Some of the highlighted individuals will be at the event,” and that the exhibit will be on display through this month.
The exhibit is to be in City Hall, on the second floor, outside of the Mayor’s Office.
