Andrew Amaya, New Britain Student Attending CCSU, Receives Alma Exley Scholarship
Andrew Amaya of New Britain, studying Secondary Education with a focus on history at Central Connecticut State University, has received a $5,000 Alma Exley Scholarship. Amaya is a New Britain High School graduate.
The Alma Exley Scholarship Program says that,
Alma Exley, a dedicated educator, was working at the Connecticut Department of Education to bring more people of color into the teaching profession. Since her death in 1995, the Alma Exley Scholarship Program has been carrying on her work.
The Program adds that,
Alma Exley recognized that America’s diversity is one of our country’s greatest strengths. The Alma Exley Scholarship Program, established in her memory, is dedicated to promoting greater diversity in the teaching profession. Through scholarships, we are honoring and supporting outstanding students who are preparing for careers as public school teachers.
The Program is administered by the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain.
