Democrats Win Big in New Britain in 2024 Elections

Democrats won by large margins in New Britain in the 2024 elections, as part of wins for Democrats in the major elections in Connecticut, according to unofficial vote totals published by the Secretary of the State.

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris (D) and vice presidential candidate Tim Walz (D), received more votes than Republicans Donald Trump (R) and JD Vance (R), 13,503 to 8,282 in New Britain. As of the publication of this article, Harris and Walz appeared to be ahead overall in the state, 54% to 44%, though, according the Associated Press, Trump won enough electoral votes in other states to become president again.

Incumbent US Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) won big over Republican challenger Matthew Corey (R) by 13,798 to 6,842 in the city, and similarly appears ahead in the state 56% to 42%.

By a 13,881 to 7,558 margin in New Britain, incumbent US Representative Jahana Hayes (D-5) received more votes than Republican George Logan (R), and appears in the lead in the 5th Congressional district as a whole, 53% to 47%.

State Senator Rick Lopes (D-6) won over Republican Tremell Collins (R) by 13,589 to 7,196 in New Britain. Lopes won the election in the Sixth Senatorial District as a whole 20,160 to 14,337.

24th Assembly District.

In the 24th Assembly District, incumbent Democratic State Rep Manny Sanchez (D-24) defeated Republican Alden Russell (R), 5,062 to 2,631.

Democratic Rep. Bobby Sanchez (D-25) won over Republican challenger Jamie Vaughan (R) in the 25th Assembly District 3,614 to 1,543.

In the only open seat election in the city Democratic candidate David DeFronzo (D) defeated Republican candidate Barbara Marino (R) 4,336 to 2,910 in the 26th Assembly District.

26th Assembly District.

The 24th, 25th and 26th Districts are entirely in New Britain, making Sanchez, Sanchez and DeFronzo the winners for the next two-year term.

In the 27th Assembly District, which New Britain shares with Newington, incumbent Democratic Rep. Gary Turco (D-27) received more votes in New Britain 537 to 39 than petitioning candidate Stephen Ellis and Turco won the district as a whole 8,396 to 1,101.
