Screening of “Within our Gates”, Celebrating Pioneers of African American Cinema, at the New Britain Public Library
In celebration of pioneers of African American Cinema, the New Britain Public Library is hosting a screening of, “Within our Gates.”
“Join us for a screening of the early silent film ‘Within Our Gates”, directed by Oscar Micheaux, one of the first major African-American feature filmmakers,” says the New Britain Public Library. “This film was considered lost until a copy was discovered in Spain in 1979. It was restored in 1993 by the Library of Congress, making it the oldest known surviving film by an African American Director.”
The Library says, “Registration is not required.”
