Meanwhile, all fifteen members of the City Council have introduced a resolution, “formally recognizes and celebrates the Lunar New Year, encouraging all residents to join in recognizing this important cultural tradition.”
The resolution is on the agenda of the February 13, 2025 Council meeting agenda.
“The Lunar New Year is a time of joy, reflection, and renewal,” the resolution says, “celebrated by millions around the world, including members of New Britain’s diverse and vibrant Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community.”
The resolution goes on to say, “the Lunar New Year marks the beginning of the new year based on the lunar calendar and is traditionally observed with festivities that include family gatherings, cultural performances, symbolic foods, and acts of goodwill.”

“This holiday is a significant time for many cultures, including Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and other Asian communities, and represents values of prosperity, unity, and hope for the coming year,” the resolution adds.
“The City of New Britain recognizes the importance of cultural celebrations in fostering diversity, inclusion, and understanding among all residents,” the resolution says. “The contributions of the AAPI community have enriched the cultural, social, and economic fabric of New Britain, and the Lunar New Year serves as an opportunity to honor these contributions and promote cross-cultural appreciation.
