City Council Special Meeting on Allen Street Project Funding
The City Council is set to hold a special meeting to take up a resolution to bond $2 million for the Allen Street drainage infrastructure project.
The $2 million proposal would be funding toward the proposed $13.9 million Allen Street project drainage project is to alleviate mounting concerns about flooding caused by drainage infrastructure in need of improvements.
The funding for the project was agreed to as part of a compromise in which a series of other bonding proposals was approved in March.
But the specific amount of the proposal was approved only after a contentious of the Standing Bonding Subcommittee last week. A Democratic proposal to increase the allocation to $3 million in that meeting was defeated on a 5 to 5 vote, but the $2 million proposal was reported back to the full Council favorably.
Neighborhood flooding has become a major concern in a number of areas of the city. Notably, the neighborhood between Allen Street and Roxbury Road near CCSU neighborhood has been facing serious problems with neighborhood flooding because of overdue infrastructure improvements. Neighborhood activists, Council members and state legislators have been pressing for full funding the project.
The special Council meeting is to be Wednesday, April 26, 2025 at 6:45pm, immediately before the regular Council meeting. The meeting is to be in City Hall.
