NBMAA Access for All Community Day for Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr Day

The New Britain Museum of American Art (NBMAA) is inviting the public to honor the legacy of the Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr through a vibrant day of art, music, and community reflection. In partnership with the CT Center for Nonviolence (CTCN), the museum will host its Access for All Community Day, centered around the 2026 theme: “Choose Love.”

The event, which is on Monday, January 19, 2026 from 11:00am to 2:00pm, the Museum says, offers free admission to all visitors for, “a day of art-making, interactive music and dance performances, a poetry writing workshop, and guided gallery conversations focused on the theme ‘Choose Love.'”

The schedule of events, the Museum says includes:

11 a.m.: Welcome and Introductions in Stanley Works Center
11:05-11:50 a.m.: Drum performance by Gamaliel Moses
11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. and 12:45-2 p.m.: Drop-In Poetry workshop by Shanna Melton
11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.: New Britain Public Library book giveaway and art-making activity
12-12:45 p.m.: Interactive dance performance with Adjovi Simpini
12:45-1:45 p.m.: Performance and interactive workshop with CT Troubadour Khaiim Kelly
1 p.m.: Guided gallery conversations on Norman Rockwell’s The Problem We All Live With and Stephanie Syjuco’s Chromakey Aftermath and Total Transparencies
