NBMAA Hosting Access for All Community Day for Hispanic Heritage Month

The New Britain Museum of American Art (NBMAA) is hosting an All Community Day for Hispanic Heritage Month.

The event is Saturday, September 19, 2026 11:00am-2pm.

The Museum says, “Join us for a day of programs that celebrate the rich folkloric traditions and contemporary practices from various Hispanic cultures. Enjoy the day with your family by participating in interactive performances, trying out some drop-in activities, or simply enjoy the day’s offerings.”

The schedule of events is to be:

-10:30-11:15 a.m. | Salsón: The Ultimate Salsa Experience!
Salsón blends movement, irresistible rhythms, and audience participation to create an unforgettable cultural experience. Guests learn, dance, and connect, while listening to the story of the origins of Salsa—leaving the room energized, inspired, and connected. 
-11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. | The Austral Trio / Cordillera Project
Carlos Boltes (viola and charango), Scott Hill (guitar), and Rodolfo Zanetti (bandoneón) are working on the Cordillera Project: a reunion of three musicians that have combined their talents to bring an entirely new sound to the concert stage. Featuring the fiery rhythm of the Andean charango, the virtuosity of the bandoneon, and the precision of the classical guitar, the Cordillera Project performs new music composed and arranged by the group’s members as well as newly commissioned works by composers from all over the world.

Your local family-owned Puerto Rican Bakery serving the community high-quality and authentic foods. Founded in 2001, our bakery was born out of passion for sharing the flavors and traditions of our Isla del Encanto.
-10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. | Cecilia Imports selling goods made by Guatemalan artisans
Through Cecilia Imports, Terese offers a vibrant collection of handwoven textiles, embroidered clothing, beaded jewelry, worry dolls, shawls, accessories, and other traditional Guatemalan crafts, many created by artisans she worked with during her Peace Corps service in Santiago Sacatepéquez. Terese is connected to Indigenous Guatemalan culture through her family and her husband’s community, honoring their textile traditions by supporting weavers and makers who continue these art forms. Her work centers on cultural exchange, fair income for artisans, and the celebration of Guatemalan Indigenous craftsmanship.

Salsón combina movimiento, ritmos irresistibles y participación del público para crear una experiencia cultural inolvidable. Los asistentes aprenden, bailan y conectan, mientras escuchan la historia de los orígenes de la salsa, saliendo de la sala llenos de energía, inspiración y conexión.
-11:30 a. m. – 12:15 p. m. | El Trío Austral / Proyecto Cordillera
Carlos Boltes (viola y charango), Scott Hill (guitarra) y Rodolfo Zanetti (bandoneón) están trabajando en el Proyecto Cordillera: una reunión de tres músicos que han combinado sus talentos para traer un sonido completamente nuevo al escenario. Con el ritmo vibrante del charango andino, el virtuosismo del bandoneón y la precisión de la guitarra clásica, el Proyecto Cordillera interpreta música nueva compuesta y arreglada por los miembros del grupo, así como obras encargadas a compositores de todo el mundo.

Tu panadería puertorriqueña local, de propiedad familiar, que ofrece a la comunidad alimentos auténticos y de alta calidad. Fundada en 2001, nuestra panadería nació de la pasión por compartir los sabores y las tradiciones de nuestra Isla del Encanto.
-10:30 a. m. – 2 p. m. | Cecilia Imports vende productos elaborados por artesanos guatemaltecos.
A través de Cecilia Imports, Terese ofrece una vibrante colección de textiles tejidos a mano, ropa bordada, joyería con cuentas, muñecas quitapenas, chales, accesorios y otras artesanías tradicionales guatemaltecas, muchas creadas por artesanos con quienes trabajó durante su servicio en el Cuerpo de Paz en Santiago Sacatepéquez. Terese está conectada con la cultura indígena guatemalteca a través de su familia y la comunidad de su esposo, honrando sus tradiciones textiles al apoyar a tejedores y artesanos que continúan con estas formas de arte. Su trabajo se centra en el intercambio cultural, la igualdad de ingresos para los artesanos y la celebración de la artesanía indígena guatemalteca.
