“Champions of Change” Event to be Held in Honor of Black History Month

Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas (D) and State Treasurer Erick Russell (D) are to be special guests at an event presented by Sen Rick Lopes (D-6), Rep Bobby Sanchez (D-25), Rep Manny Sanchez (D-24), Rep David DeFronzo (D-26), Rep Gary Turco (D-27), the City Council President, Ald Francisco Santiago (D-5), the Council Majority Leader, Ald John McNamara (D-4) and the Council Assistant Majority Leader, Ald Iris Sanchez (D-3) in honor of Black History Month.

In the event, “Champions of Change: A Black History Month Tribute,” the state and local officials,

will join in honoring the following individuals for their dedication to community empowerment:

-Gerri Brown-Springer
-Ronald Davis
-Pansy Kennedy
-Kaylen Morgan
-Tracy Nixon-Moore
-Frankie Scott-Byrd
-Karen Weal
-Alphonse Wright

The Champions of Change event is planned for Friday, February 7, 2025 at OIC of New Britain at 114 North Street. Doors are to open at 5:30pm and the ceremony is to begin at 6:15pm.

“This event,” organizers say, “will bring together leaders from all backgrounds, community members, and elected officials in a celebration of unity, service, and progress.”
