City Youth Theater/City Stage Company to Present “Five Guys Named Moe” in Honor of Black History Month at Trinity-on-Main

City Youth Theater/City Stage Company is presenting Five Guys Named Moe, “a vibrant celebration of Black music and storytelling,” at New Britain’s Trinity-on-Main honor of Black History Month.

The performance company says that.

This beloved musical tells the story of Nomax, a man finding solace and hope through the music of a lively, imaginary 1930s jazz and rhythm and blues group. Based on Louis Jordan’s 1943 musical short, Five Guys Named Moe blends jazz, blues, and swing in a toe-tapping, soulful journey. With iconic hits like “Is You Is or Is You Ain’t My Baby” and “Choo Choo Ch’Boogie,” the show celebrates the groundbreaking contributions of Black artists to music history.

Shelby Davis, executive Director & Founder says, “We are thrilled to bring Five Guys Named Moe to life during Black History Month. This production is a celebration of Black artistry and an opportunity to reflect on the timeless contributions of Black culture to our shared history.” Event organizers say that,

Five Guys Named Moe is more than a musical—it’s a tribute to the artistry, resilience, and influence of Black musicians like Louis Jordan, whose work shaped the foundation of American music. As we honor Black History Month, these performances remind us of the power of music to inspire, connect, and celebrate cultural heritage.

The full musical production is to be presented at Trinity-on-Main on February 21, 2025 and February 22nd at 7:00pm and also on February 23rd at 3:00pm.
