Interim Principals and Assistant Principals Appointed
The Board of Education appointed seven school-level administrators in a special meeting held on August 20, 2018.
Johanna Robles, who has been DiLoreto Elementary and Middle School Assistant Principal, was named as the interim principal at Jefferson Elementary School.
Heather Nicol, who has served as assistant principal at the Vance School and Holmes Elementary School, will be the Holmes School interim principal.
Saying that both are, “are capable of leading a building,” Consolidated School District of New Britain (CSDNB) Superintendent Nancy Sarra said that, “Both have been with CSDNB for many years and understand the needs of our students and families. I appreciate their dedication to our staff and students and look forward to their success.”
With Robles in the interim Principal position at the Jefferson School, New Britain Transitional Center lead special education teacher Lori Butterfield will serve as interim Assistant Principal at the DiLoreto School.
Pulaski Middle School will be gaining two new Assistant Principals. Pulaski lead teacher Heather Whitehead and Rosa Ortiz, who has been a special education teacher at New Britain High School, will serve as Assistant Principals at the Pulaski School. Â
Manuel Zaldivar, who, from 2013 to 2017 was an English language development teacher at Smalley Elementary School was appointed as Assistant Principal at the Chamberlain Elementary School. Zaldivar was the recipient of the Milken Educator Award in 2016.
At the Smith Elementary School, Rolanda Booker will serve as Assistant Principal. Booker comes to the New Britain school district from the Lincoln Bassett Community School in New Haven, where she has been a math and data instructional coach.
Serra highlighted that, “Just about all of these appointments are internal, which speaks to the type of talent we have here in New Britain.”
She added, “While Ms. Booker comes to us from New Haven, I know she will fit right in with the educational background and experience she has.”
Saying she is excited about the assistant principal appointments, Serra said, “I am looking forward to watching our new assistant principals grow throughout the coming school year and beyond.
