Democrat Rick Lopes appears to have won re-election in the 24th District, representing New Britain and Newington in the State House of Representatives.

With the Newington results still coming in, Lopes appears to have a commanding lead of 3,388 votes in New Britain, to 2,021 votes for Republican candidate Sharon Beloin Saavedra.

The 24th District was considered the most closely watched local race in the 2018.

Incumbent State Representative Rick Lopes was the Democratic candidate for re-election. He was also supported by the Working Families Party.

The Twenty Fourth State Assembly District represents neighborhoods in New Britain from the West End, through Willow Brook to the southern East Side, and it includes a neighborhood in Newington.
