Race in the Park Held to Support Breast Cancer Education and Research

The Connecticut Breast Health Initiative (CT BHI) held its 2019 Race in the Park on Saturday, May 11th, continuing a Mother’s Day weekend tradition in New Britain.

The event drew thousands of people on a crisp and sunny springtime day to run and walk in Walnut Hill Park and New Britain neighborhoods.

People come to the event each year to honor breast cancer survivors, and remember loved ones while supporting the work of the Connecticut Breast Health Initiative.

The CT BHI has said that it, “was founded in 2004 as a non-profit organization with a mission to make a difference locally in the fight against breast cancer through education and research.”

The Race in the Park is the signature fundraising event of the CT BHI.

Last year, the CT BHI announced grant support for three programs:

  • The work of Kate Dibble, PhD, University of Connecticut on a project titled, “Genetic counseling for BRCA1/2 mutations: Patient experiences, preferences and outcomes of counseling.”
  • Stamford Health’s Barbara Carr for the Stamford Health High Risk Breast Assessment Program.
  • Aswanth Reddy, MD, for work on Genomic Assessment of Tumors from Metastatic Breast Cancer Patients.

CT BHI has said that, “100% of the money raised by CT BHI stays in CT in support of education and research, funding progressive programs that have yet to qualify for federal grants.”
