Crowds of residents gathered on a warm and cloudy Sunday for a back-to-school flag football tournament organized by mayor candidate Chris Porcher.
The tournament, hosted by Josh Hudson, drew approximately two hundred people to Willow Street Park, where people enjoyed the football competition, food and music.
The event, also organized as a book bag and school supply drive, was held on August 25, 2019, from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
Organizers for the event say that sponsors included Shiela Osborn, Josh Hudson, Mary Wilson, Sweet Water Juice Bar, the House of Pizza, Pizza Pal, Teeza Barber Shop, Training and Motivation Center and CrossFit Plainville.
Chris Porcher is the Democratic candidate for mayor of New Britain.
Porcher is challenging Republican Mayor Erin Stewart in city elections on November 5, 2019. Stewart is a three-term incumbent, running for a fourth two-year term.
