‘Disaster!’ Opening at CT Theatre Company

New Britain’s Connecticut Theatre Company is performing the Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick musical comedy play, Disaster!

The Connecticut Theatre production of the play opens on October 11, 2019.

The play, directed by Duane Campbell, features popular songs from the 1970s, while its plot parodies the disaster movies of that era.

As the Theatre Company describes the play, “It’s 1979, and New York’s hottest A-listers are lining up for the opening of a floating casino and discotheque.” But, the Theatre says,

What begins as a night of boogie fever quickly changes to panic as the ship succumbs to multiple disasters, such as earthquakes, tidal waves and infernos. As the night turns into day, everyone struggles to survive and, quite possibly, repair the love that they’ve lost… or at least escape the killer rats.

The plays cast includes Garth West as “Chad,” “Marianne” played by Krystina Diaz, “Scott” performed by Galen Donovan, Cristin Marshall as “Jackie,” Stephen Maher as “Tony,” “Levora” played by Candace Jelks, Doug McCarthy as “Ted,” Melissa Rostkoski in the role of “Sister Mary,” Kennedy Morris as “Ben” and “Lisa,” Lori Holm as “Shirley,” “Maury” performed by Ed Rosenblat, Ben Marcil as “Jake” and Lou Oporto and Sheila Duckworth performing as the “Wealthy Man” and “Wealthy Woman.” Other roles are played by Julie Baerny, Kelsey Campbell, Julia Leba, Ellie Maillett, Natalie Partola, Robert J. Williams and Shannon Williams.

Together, the cast brings to life characters the Theater describes as, “a faded disco star, a sexy nightclub singer with her eleven-year-old twins, a disaster expert, a feminist reporter, an older couple with a secret, a pair of young guys who are looking for ladies, an untrustworthy businessman and a nun with a gambling addiction.”

In addition to Campbell, the Theatre Company’s production team for the play includes Assistant Director Ben Silberman, Music Director Nick Stanford, Costume Designer Rose Masselli Morse and Choreographer Kristen Norris, with set and lighting design by Michael J. Bane.
