Citywide Celebration of Martin Luther King Announced
The Mary McLeod Bethune Club, in partnership with NAACP New Britain Chapter, have announced the 2020 Martin Luther King, Jr. Citywide Celebration.
The celebration will be held to honor the life and work of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and continuing work of the civil rights movement.
The event is to be held on Martin Luther King Day, on January 20, 2020. It is to be held at 1:30pm at Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church.
Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church is located at 25 Crestwood Lane, which is off of Country Club Road.
New Britain Native Basil Niccolls, Jr, is to be the Guest Speaker for the event. Event organizers say that, Niccolls is
a native of New Britain, Connecticut and a graduate of Howard University in Washington, DC. He currently works in Management Consulting and serves his community as a mentor and coach for the New Wave Youth Track and Field Club based in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Basil is also a graduate of New Britain High School and a former intern of U.S. Senator Christopher Murphy (Conn).
The event’s theme is to be “Moving Forward Together 2020.”
Event organizers say that, “the public is welcome to attend.”
