Top 10 of 2019: #6 – Blogoslawski Apparently Charged With DUI

Many important stories have been covered by the New Britain Progressive in 2019. It may be difficult to name only a few articles as the top stories of the year, but there are a few the New Britain Progressive would like to share as our Top Ten.  Other Top Ten stories can be found at “Top Ten Stories of 2019.”

In 2019, one of the city’s top elected officials was apparently arrested, as Republican City Tax Collector Cheryl Blogoslawski appears to have been arrested by police for driving under the influence in Southington.

The New Britain Progressive appears to have broken the story, meaning reported it first (Blogoslawski Apparently Charged With DUI.), but the New Britain Herald also covered the story.

While of limited practical authority, the city Tax Collector is formally one of the city’s top elected officials, appearing immediately next to the office of mayor on the city election ballot.

From the 2019 city election ballot.

Blogoslawski was the Republican nominee for Tax Collector, on Republican Mayor Erin Stewart’s slate in 2019, and was re-elected.

But the apparent arrest of the person in what is, officially, one of the city’s top elected positions makes the story #6 in the New Britain Progressive‘s Top Ten Stories of 2019.

A campaign finance form filed by Blogoslawski in 2017 noted her address as 34 Edbert Drive in New Britain.
