Walczak is running for the Congressional seat against New Britain’s current United States Representative, Jahana Hayes (D-5), as well as against the Republican candidate for Congress, David X. Sullivan.

“I’m pleased to be endorsed for Congress 5th District,” Walczak, a resident of Newtown, said in the Independent Party announcement of his candidacy. “The Independent Party represents a new and important nonpartisan approach to government. I will be representing first and foremost the people of Connecticut, not a major Political Party.”

Connecticut Independent Party Chair, Mike Telesca, said that, “Bruce Walczak has been a long term participant in Charitable Boards including The United Way, Jr Achievement and The Multiple Sclerosis Association, and locally the Newtown Family Counseling Center, The Newtown Business Advisory , and most recently the President of The Newtown Lions Club.

“America is being threatened by a political process that is failing us and our children,” Walczak said on Facebook. “It is not just ‘fixed’, not just ‘rigged’, not just dysfunctional – it is dividing us so severely as a people that many of our enemies believe we will rot from within. The voters and Independent Party Candidates can help stem this destructive partisanship.”

“I intend to work with all members of Congress to address the serious issues America currently faces,” Walczak said in a statement. “Problems that have long been ignored by our representatives in Washington. We must work together to understand these issues such as the economy, health care, immigration, equal rights, gun control, our climate, and Social Security. We can no longer simply kick these problems down the road.”

The Independent Party, in its statement, said that,

A 30-year resident of Newtown, Bruce Walczak has been active in the Independent Party for over 10 years and is currently Secretary of the State Independent Party. He was previously elected to the Newtown Police Commission as the first ever Independent Party member with the highest number of votes received and served a four-year term ending in 2011. Bruce Walczak, as Chairman of the Independent Party Newtown, oversaw the Party elect 10 candidates to local office in 2007.

Telesca added that Walczak, “has had a distinguished career in business having been President of PHH Destination Services, Vice President of Prudential Relocation and Real Estate, and currently runs his own consulting firm. He brings a valuable balance of business, entrepreneurial skill, and involvement in important social issues which he will bring with him to the U. S. Congress.

Hayes, Sullivan and Walczak will appear on the ballot in the November 3, 2020 general election. Hayes, the Democratic Party’s candidate, will be on the ballot twice, since she was also nominated by the Working Families Party.
