NBMAA to Host Thanksgiving Weekend Online Music Event

The New Britain Museum of American Art is inviting people to a Thanksgiving weekend online live performance, “of pop songs with a positive message.”

In the online event, Phred Mileski and Joe Grieco are to perform, “an alternating song swap of piano and vocal performances,” saying that the, “three-round, themed format will offer joyful Thanksgiving cheer.”

The event, “Music as the Canvas – Things to be Thankful For,” is to be held on the day after Thanksgiving, November 27, 2020, at 6:00pm.

“Free online event coming up this Friday evening,” Mileski said on her Facebook page, “featuring Yours Truly and Joe Grieco. Jeff Mainville will be our genial host as we chat about life’s gifts and swap some songs in the process.”

The Museum has information for how to register for the event, to be on Zoom, on its website.

Mileski’s website says that she,

is equally at home in a surprising number of musical styles and has performed with musicians all over the world. She currently lives in Connecticut.

Because of her versatility, she is in demand as a vocalist and arranger for a wide variety of bands, performances and recording projects in many genres, including jazz, classical, alt-folk, and country.

Grieco’s website describes that he,

is an established, professional piano player and vocalist who has been performing live, solo and with both local and national acts, for over 35 years. Joe is known for being a founding member and musical director of the Southeastern Connecticut based event band, The Cartells.

Joe has also developed musical scores and provided vocals for television documentaries and radio/television commercials for clients including CPTV, Smilow Cancer Hospital, Subway, Army National Guard and Columbia Dental.

The New Britain Museum of American Art has said that its, “founding in 1903 entitles the institution to be designated the first museum of strictly American art in the country,” adding that,

With particular strengths in colonial portraiture, the Hudson River School, American Impressionism, and the Ash Can School, not to mention the important mural series The Arts of Life in America by Thomas Hart Benton, the museum relies heavily on its permanent collection for exhibitions and programming, yet also displays a significant number of borrowed shows and work by emerging artists. The singular focus on American art and its panoramic view of American artistic achievement make the New Britain Museum of American Art a significant teaching resource available to the local, regional, and national public.

The Museum is located at 56 Lexington Street, adjoining New Britain’s historic Walnut Hill Park.
