DeLandro to Moderate Schools’ Equity Conversation

The Consolidated School District of New Britain is to host an online “Community Building Conversations Forum” on equity.

Community leader Veronica T. DeLandro is to be the moderator for the event, to be held on February 4, 2021 at 6:00pm.

Panelist for the event are to Rev. Samuel Blanks, Pastor of Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church, Rev. Gervais Barger, Pastor of Peace Missionary Ministries and Rev. Jane Rowe, Pastor of South Church.

The Forum, “a discussion on equity,” is to be held on the school district’s Facebook page.

DeLandro has served as District Director for Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (D-5) and now provides consulting, training and coaching to nonprofit organizations at VTD Consulting Group, which she founded. She previously had a career at ESPN before she began working with organizations with a focus on philanthropy, college access and mentoring.

Rev. Blanks’ biography says that, “He believes the church is not just a place of worship but its leaders and congregation have a duty to champion for healing, love and kindness for all, regardless of race, religion or color. He believes in partnering with various religious entities to help foster peace and love. This is truly his commitment in ministry and he stays the course.”

In addition to his leadership as Pastor of Peace Missionary Ministries, Rev. Barger is the President of the New Britain Black Ministers Alliance. He is noted for his leadership in the New Britain community, such as his work calling on elected officials, on behalf of the Alliance, to implement change against racism and for equality.

Rev. Rowe is Pastor of the South Church, which says that, “We celebrate God’s truth through worship, preaching, music, and the arts. We witness to God’s truth by continually striving to serve those in need and to improve the quality of life for people in our city and the wider world beyond.”

The event is to be presented via Facebook Live.
