“The New Britain Black Democratic Club officially endorsed Bobby Sanchez for New Britain Mayor,” the organization said in a recent statement, “and all Candidates on Row A of the ballot, at its recent membership meeting.”

State Rep. Bobby Sanchez (D-25) is the Democratic candidate for Mayor, running to unseat four-term incumbent Republican Mayor Erin Stewart.

“Bobby’s current long-term position as State Representative for District 25 proves his dedication and commitment to further fight for the rights of all people regardless of what zip code they reside in,” the Black Democratic Club said.

The New Britain Black Democratic Club is led by its President, former Ald. Shirley Black (D-3).

The Club added, “Bobby has come to the Black Community and sought out the opinion of a variety of Black Community leaders and he listened to what we had to say. He supports policies and programs that have a real potential to help Black families.”

The Black Democratic Club noted a number of issues it based it support on.

“Bobby is fully committed to fully funding our schools and investing in our children and our future,” the organization says, adding, “Bobby will work with the superintendent of schools to develop new strategies to increase minority teacher recruitment, hiring and retention.”

On policing, the Black Democratic Club says that, “Bobby supports a Citizen’s Review Board, with subpoena powers, to assist the Police Department with reducing or preventing occurrences of excessive use of force by police.”

On economic development, the Club says that, “Bobby knows the importance of encouraging minority owned small businesses and most importantly developing strategies to help keep them in business.”

“Bobby,” the organization says, “is committed to the revitalization of the Martin Luther King Corridor. This Corridor will focus on areas (communities) usually neglected for general services for an improved quality of life to residents.”

The Black Democratic Club points out that, “Bobby will review the mission and goals of the Human Rights and Opportunity Office to ensure the office is benefiting the community as intended.”

Encouraging people to vote on Tuesday, November 2nd, the New Britain Black Democratic Club says that, “Bobby looks at the Black community as vital for his success as a Legislator and Mayor of the City of New Britain. He is equipped and ready to lead us forward and upward as the next Mayor of New Britain.”
