NAACP To Hold Online Health and Wellness Forum

The NAACP New Britain Branch is to hold an online health care education and information forum for Black History Month.

The event is to be on Thursday, February 24, 2022, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.

The event is to cover issues ranging from “HIV, COVID-19 and Omicron, oncology and prostate cancer and heart disease specific atrial fibrillation, which are all common among African Americans.”

The program is expected to include Dr. Henry Anyimadu, Dr. Brian Byrne and others.

The NAACP says that the topics of discussion related to infectious disease are to include,

• COVID-19 vaccines tests and antivirals

• How COVID affected mental health

• Men more likely than women to spread COVID-19

• Efficacy for inhaled ciclesouide for PTS treatment of adolescents and adults with symptomatic COVID-19

• Does vaccines remain the best protection we have in terms of reducing mortality and hospitalization

• Subvariant of omicron virus or BA.2 latest virus still need booster?

• Vaccine preference if you had a choice between the vaccines which one would you prefer?

• Return to normalcy when will we be able to remove our masks and stop social distancing?

• Virus mutations – any concerns regarding the virus mutations?

• What is the most effective way to prevent the spread of the virus?

• What is the latest concerning HIV, and its status?

On oncology and cancer of the prostate, the topics are to include,

• What are the signs and symptoms of cancer of the prostate

• The incidence of prostate cancer

• When to be screened, PSA levels and what do they mean

• Advances in treatment options what closing comments

On cardiology and heart disease, topics of discussion are to include,

• When to see a specialist

• Recognizing the signs of a heart attack

• Things you can do to stay healthy

• Treatment options including lifestyle changes, medications and procedures

• Understanding the causes and symptoms of a fib or atrial fibrillation

• Standard heart function tests and what they mean

• What to expect before, during and after testing
