The program, named in honor of the widely revered community leader, Mr. Alton F. Brooks, is set to open on February 26, 2022. It is to continue on Saturdays, until April 23rd.

The YMCA has posted a YouTube video from the activities of their 2021 program.

“At the Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA,” organizers say, :not only do we teach our players sports skills and how to work with teammates, we also teach them good sportsmanship.”

The YMCA says that it offers the program for fees that are, “$50 Full Member, $70 Program Member.”

The YMCA says, “Masks must be worn by anyone who is not fully vaccinated,” adding that is provides hand sanitizer, rotates and cleans its basketballs and says that, instead of shaking hands, “a different way to show sportsmanship will be used.”

More information, the YMCA says, is available by contacting, “Kyle Cookson at 203-440-1901 or [email protected].”

The YMCA says that it,

is the starting point for many youth to learn about becoming and staying active, and developing healthy habits they’ll carry with them throughout their lives. And the benefits are far greater than just physical health. Whether it’s gaining the confidence that comes from learning to play or building the positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork, participating in sports at the Y is about building the whole child, from the inside out.

New Britain YMCA is located at 50 High Street.
