Dr. Anthony Gasper Is Appointed New Britain School Superintendent

The New Britain Board of Education met in special session on Monday, April 18, 2022 and named Dr. Anthony J. Gasper, Ed.D as the new schools Superintendent.

In brief remarks to the Board after his appointment, Dr. Gasper said he is appreciative of the trust the Board has placed in him.

Gasper said that he felt like it was a homecoming for him, as he is spending time to get to to know New Britain’s schools. He said he is looking forward to getting to know the city’s students and staff, as well as the community and businesses.

Gasper, who said that he grew up in East Hartford, said that he feels like his personal and professional experience has lead him to the place where he is taking the lead of New Britain’s schools.

Dr. Gasper is presently the Superintendent of the Wolcott Public Schools and has more than 12 years experience as a superintendent or assistant superintendent in three Connecticut schools districts. Gasper was appointed to lead Wolcott Schools in 2015. Previously he served as deputy superintendent in Windham and was the assistant superintendent in Ansonia. According to earlier press reports, he received a doctorate of educational leadership and administration from Central Connecticut State University. He began his educational career as a Spanish teacher at Manchester High School and was an assistant principal at East Hampton High School.

The Consolidated School District of New Britain had earlier said on its website that,

The board’s Search Committee, working with a team of consultants from Cooperative Educational Services, began the search process by identifying the qualifications, experiences and personal qualities that the New Britain community most desires in its next superintendent. By using feedback collected through an online community survey, posted in four languages, numerous focus groups with a comprehensive variety of stakeholders, and some individual interviews, the CES consultants crafted a representative candidate profile that guided the board in the process of selecting candidates.

The school system said that, “The Search Committee is led by Board Chair Gayle Sanders-Connolly and includes all board members.”
