North-Oak NRZ President Manny Sandoval Sets Vision

North-Oak Neighborhood Revitalization Zone (NRZ) President Manny Sandoval kicked off work ahead in the May meeting of the community organization.

Sandoval recently succeeded Pastor Dana Smith as NRZ President and the meeting began as a passing of the leadership of the organization.

Sandoval prioritized getting youth active and involved in the neighborhood. He announced plans for youth basketball in the North-Oak neighborhood in coordination with community volunteers, city police and city fire fighters. Representatives of each made plans at the meeting to get the basketball events started.

Connecting the NRZ with neighborhood homeowners was another priority Sandoval discussed, saying that the group would be door-knocking in the neighborhood to discuss the NRZ with neighborhood residents.

At the meeting, State Representative Bobby Sanchez (D-25) discussed state funding he and other legislators recently allocated for various services in the city. He also provided an update concerning the Martin Luther King Corridor program and state funding provided to plan for construction under that plan.

The NRZ is an organization in which area residents and others involved in the neighborhood are able to work together to advocate for the future of the community.

The May 26, 2022 meeting was held at Willow Street Park.
