Capitol Flag Raising Celebrates Constitution of Puerto Rico and Puerto Rican Heritage

State dignitaries gathered at the State Capitol to raise the Puerto Rican flag in celebration of Connecticut’s Puerto Rican heritage and the anniversary of the Constitution of Puerto Rico.

July 25th is Puerto Rico Constitution Day, celebrating the day, on July 25, 1952 that the Constitution of Puerto Rico was officially declared by Governor Luis Muñoz Marín, after it was approved in a referendum earlier that year.

Jason Rojas (D-9th), Chair of the state legislative Black and Puerto Rican Caucus, Rep. Geraldo Reyes (D-75), Deputy Speaker, Rep. Minnie Gonzalez (D-3) and Assistant Deputy Speaker, Rep. The anniversary is a celebration for Puerto Rico, and is also a time to celebrate the Puerto Rican heritage of New Britain residents and the rich Puerto Rican culture in the city, and in Connecticut, as a whole.

Dignitaries leading the event included the Majority Leader of the state House of Representatives, Rep. Jason Rojas (D-9th), the Chair of the state legislative Black and Puerto Rican Caucus, Rep. Geraldo Reyes (D-75), Vice Chair of the Caucus, Rep. Bobby Gibson (D-15), Deputy Speaker, Rep. Minnie Gonzalez (D-3), Assistant Deputy Speaker, Rep. Hilda Santiago (D-84) and special guest Nancy Serrano.
