New Britain Council President Says, “No Excuse for Domestic Abuse,” After Recent Death

The New Britain City Council’s President Pro Tempore, Ald. Francisco Santiago (D-5) says that, “There is no excuse for domestic abuse in our community,” in a statement expressing, “condolences to the family and friends of Sabrina Finch, who tragically lost her life as a result of domestic abuse.”

Ald. Santiago said that domestic abuse, “is unacceptable and steals the basic human rights of its victims and their families. I strongly condemn these actions and send my profound sympathy to all who have been affected by this vicious event.”

“This is an ongoing issue within our community, and we need to take stronger steps to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all,” Santiago added.

In a statement, the Council said,

This heartbreaking event is the second tragedy within the last month to claim the life of a domestic violence victim. Domestic abuse is a deeply concerning and prevalent issue that affects far too many individuals and families within New Britain. United as one, we must stand against this threat and work together to create an environment where survivors feel emboldened to seek help and where potential abusers are held accountable for their actions.

“If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence,” the Council added, “we encourage you to seek help by dialing 2-1-1. Additional information may be found at www.211ct.org or www.thehotline.org.”
