Early voting for the August 11 State and Federal Primaries has officially begun in New Britain, offering voters a seven-day period to cast their ballots ahead of Primary Day.
The early voting period, which opened on Monday, August 3, will run through Sunday, August 9. Eligible registered voters can cast their ballots at either of the city’s two designated early voting locations:
- New Britain Senior Center, 55 Pearl St.
- Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) Mobile Office, located at the corner of Paul Manafort Drive and East Street.
Voting hours are set from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on most days, with extended hours from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, and Thursday, August 6.
Voters this year will be selecting party nominees for the upcoming State and Federal elections, with both Democratic and Republican primaries taking place. According to the sample ballots provided by the Secretary of the State, the races on the ballot in New Britain include:
- Democratic Primary for Governor: Incumbent Governor Ned Lamont (party-endorsed) is facing a challenge from State Representative Josh Elliott.
- Republican Primary for Representative in Congress (5th District): Chris Shea (party-endorsed) is facing a challenge from Jonathan De Barros.
For those who prefer to vote on Primary Day, Tuesday, August 11, all 17 of New Britain’s regular polling locations will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The Registrars of Voters remind residents that Same-Day Registration and voting are not permitted for primaries. However, unaffiliated voters still have until 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, to file a voter registration application in-person at the Registrars of Voters office in City Hall, Room 507, to enroll in a political party and participate in Tuesday’s primary.
The deadline for new voters or unaffiliated voters to enroll by mail or online passed on July 24.
