Summer Meals Available for Children and Teens
Foodshare‘s New Britain Hunger Action Team is spreading the word about free meals available for children and teens in the city during the summer of 2019.
The federally funded summer meals program provides breakfast and lunch at various locations in the city Monday through Friday.
The promotion says that, “all kids and teens are welcome at every site,” and that, “No registration or ID required.”
Different sites are open through different dates and at different times. Some locations do not offer both breakfast and lunch.
All locations are closed on July 4th.

Information on Summer Meal locations is available by texting “CTMeals” to 877877 or by calling 211. End Hunger Connecticut! also has a “Summer Meals Locator” website at CTSummerMeals.org, to help families locate, “Summer Meal locations near you.”
The meals are provided as part of the federal Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), which is the program under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The USDA says that the program, “provides kids and teens in low-income areas free meals when school is out.”
“In 2018,” the USDA says, “the SFSP provided more than 145 million nutritious meals and snacks to children during the summer when school was not in session.”
