More Than 40 New Britain COVID-19 Deaths Reported
With 41 deaths and nearly 600 cases reportedly confirmed in New Britain, the city has crossed another grim milestone in the COVID-19 pandemic.
The data, from the state Department of Public Health, apparently shows the number of confirmed cases increasing by 32% in the week ending May 6, 2020.
The rate by which COVID-19 deaths increased statewide in the week ending May 6th appears to have been 29%.
In the two weeks ending May 6th, the number New Britain deaths in the pandemic appears to have increased by 95%, according to the data. The rate of increase statewide in that same two week period appears to have been 81%.
The data appears to show the number of New Britain deaths from the disease 6.8 times higher than three weeks ago, considerably higher than the rate of increase in the state as a whole. Statewide, the number of deaths from coronavirus appears to have been 3.2 times higher in the three weeks from April 15th to May 6th.
The data appears to show a lower number of deaths in New Britain for May 4th than for May 3rd, but the state has said that, “All data in this report are preliminary; data for previous dates will be updated as new reports are received and data errors are corrected.”
The number of what the state reports as, “Laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 that have been reported,” in New Britain appears to be rapidly approaching 600 as 594 people, as of May 6th, were reported to have been confirmed as having had the virus. The trajectory of increase appears to be continuing steadily upward.
The number of COVID-19 cases in New Britain on May 6th reported in the data appears to be 3.2 times higher than three weeks earlier, while the statewide number of cases apparently was 2.2 times higher in that same period.
The number of New Britain cases was apparently 95% higher than in the previous two weeks, April 22nd to May 6th, while the statewide total appears to have increased by 41%.
In the previous week, from April 29th to May 6th, the number of New Britain COVID-19 cases apparently increased by 40%, while cases apparently increased 19% statewide.
Statewide, the number deaths from COVID-19 reported as of May 6th was 2,718, while the number of laboratory-confirmed cases was 30,995.
The state says that the daily state and city data are, “Laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 that have been reported among Connecticut residents,” and that, “Deaths reported to the either the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) or Department of Public Health (DPH) are included in the daily COVID-19 update.” This state data tracks the cumulative totals of deaths from and cases of COVID-19 in New Britain and the state.
