New Britain Parks and Recreation has announced that its camp TotalRec will have limited spaces and a lottery for admission during the summer of 2020.
“Following the guidelines from the OEC and the CDC, our summer program will look different this year,” city Parks and Recreation said, discussing the different programming because of COVID-19.
Parks and Recreation said that it, “has been working diligently to create a summer experience for your child that is both safe and fun.”
The 2020 TotalRec Summer Care is to be at four locations, AW Stanley Park, Chesley Park, Walnut Hill Park and Willow Brook Park. It is to take place on Mondays to Fridays from June 29th to August 7th.
The program is to be from 9:00am to 3:00pm on the days of the program, but is to be closed on July 3rd.
Parks and Recreation says, “The summer care program will be limited to 30 participants at each location, reducing group sizes to 10 youth per group,” also saying that, “there will be no bus transportation.”
Promotional material for the programs says that it includes, “breakfast & lunch,” but that there is, “no before/after care.” Parks and Recreation says that, “This program will be available to youth who have completed grades 1 – 5.”
Parks and Recreation says that open enrollment, “is scheduled for Monday, June 1st – Friday, June 12th , visit our website at www.nbparksnrec.org to register.” The phone number for Parks and Recreation is 860-826-3360.
There is to be an admission lottery, Parks and Recreation says, that, “will close on Friday, June 12th at 3:45pm,” while, “notifications of acceptance will go out on Monday, June 15th.”
If accepted, Parks and Recreation says that families must pay the fee for the program by June 19th at 3:45pm, or the space will go to someone on a waiting list. “The price of the TotalRec Summer Care Program is $40 per week,” Parks and Recreation says.
Answering questions from the public online, Parks and Recreation provided more insights about the shape of other summer programming this summer.
Parks and Recreation said that, “Summer Music Workshop Day Camp will not happen this year,” and that its Leaders in Training program, “will not be happening.” It also said that, “There will be no Downtown Players Theatre Camp this year.”
