The Diaspora Multicultural Society has announced it is will be holding its Annual Multicultural Festival this September, continuing its early autumn, outdoor, community tradition for a third year.
The Festival is planned for Saturday, September 12, 2020 on the grounds of the Society’s building on John Street.
The Festival is to be from 12:00pm to 5:00pm.
The Society says that the family-friendly event will be, “featuring food, vendors, live performances, and much more.”
The organization says that, “The festival further serves Diaspora’s mission of bringing together a diverse crowd to commingle and build community. Attendees will get to celebrate, participate in, and experience our community’s rich diversity.”
Diaspora says that,
Last year’s festival featured performances from diverse genres such as Jason Ramos, founder of Baila Con Gusto CT; the Academy of New England’s Mariachi Corazon de Oro; New Britain’s own R&B singer A. Marquise; the I Guru reggae band; NBHS and GHAA student, Andrea Sims; and singer-songwriter, Anitra Brooks.
The Society says that, “We look forward to safely creating an outdoor community celebration this fall,” adding that,
This year, with the impact of COVID-19, we want our 3rd Annual Multicultural Festival to further impact the community by giving backpacks with necessities to as many children as possible. To that end, you can help us out! We are accepting tax-deductible monetary donations as well as donations of items such as new backpacks, gift cards, art supplies, hand sanitizer, toiletries, masks, screen cleaners, and anything else that children can use whether in school or participating in distance learning.

The Society says that, “Diaspora is a membership-based social club that welcomes people of all backgrounds who appreciate diversity and multiculturalism.”
The Diaspora Society says that,
since April of 2017, Diaspora has collaborated with other community organizations, coordinated events, disaster relief efforts, fundraisers, cultural celebrations, and empowering programs. While COVID-19 limited our physical interactions, we have remained connected to the community and have been celebrating diversity through our “Where I’m From” poetry video series.
