Bysiewicz, Wooden Advocate for Sanchez
Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz (D-CT) and State Treasurer Shawn Wooden (D-CT) visited New Britain on Thursday to support Rep. Bobby Sanchez (D-25) in his campaign for Mayor.
The two statewide elected officials were joined by a hundred supporters at an event held at the Back Nine Tavern at Stanley Golf Course.
The Lt. Governor spoke about the need to have Democrats in key positions to ensure that federal economic funding to be, “invested in child care and education and health care and job training.”
Treasurer Wooden talked about working with Rep. Sanchez, saying that, “when I need something that related to kids’ education or financial literacy, whether I need to make sure it’s on the agenda – it’s Bobby Sanchez who I call.”
“We have an opportunity to make history,” Wooden added.
Rep. Sanchez said, “being a former teacher, I know that our kids deserve better.”
“When we have an achievement gap,” said Sanchez, “when we still have students that are not graduating from our high schools, when we still have students that are being directed to the police station versus to a social worker, we need to change that.”
“It can’t be that way. Our students deserve better,” Sanchez said.
Rep. Sanchez is running for Mayor of New Britain against incumbent Republican Mayor Erin Stewart in the November 2, 2021 city election.
