Call at MLK Day Event to Never Forget Racist Oppression

Rev. Dr. John Walker, Pastor of St. James Missionary Baptist Church, delivered a message to never forget racist oppression against Black Americans, from slavery to the present day, at the 2022 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Worship Service hosted by the Black Ministerial Alliance of New Britain.

Rev. Walker said that, “We should never forget the indignities done to Black men, our Black women and children at the hands of those who those who deemed Blacks to be less than a person.”

Rev. Walker cited the brutal oppression of the peaceful protests against segregation and the denial of the right to vote to African-Americans, as well as recent white supremist murders and of Black people killed by police and others, “simply because their skin was Black and somebody deemed them to be in the wrong place.”

“Never forget that nothing can separate you from the love of Christ,” Rev. Walker said. Speaking about racist negative messages that tell Black people things like, “you weren’t good enough,” “you ain’t going to amount to anything,” and “you are too stupid to learn,” that has, “caused some of us to live a defeated life,” Rev. Walker said that, “you are somebody,” and have the love of God.

The 2022 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Worship Service was held at New Britain’s Second Baptist Church.

The event was sponsored by the Black Ministerial Alliance of New Britain, which is led by its President, Rev. Gervais Barger, First Vice President, Rev. Andre McGuire, Second Vice President, Rev. Dana Smith, Finance Director, Rev. Brian Riley, and Recording Secretary, Rev. Sanford Lebby.
