When the nonprofit SURE Program hosted its Fashion Show in June, the New Britain Progressive invited young people in the program to express their impressions on the program and what it meant to them.
The Fashion Show was, “being done as a community event, to empower our youth, and also to fundraise for the SURE Program,” Candyce Scott, director of the Program, had said.
The New Britain Progressive had asked the young people,

- The preparation for modeling was fun and innovative. It was great to see how fashion evolved with individual styles. It was interesting for people to come together on different occasions to appreciate art and creation.
- I thought it was great to have people from all different age ranges. It is an all inclusive brand.
- The inclusion of the dog was very unique and fun.
- The red lace was my favorite. The accessories were fun.
- Yes. Everyone’s outfit seemed to match their personality.
- As a youth myself, it was great to have people cheer for me and applaud. It uplifted my confidence. I liked participating in a Black pride event.
- Yes. I felt good that it was the first time Juneteenth event in Plainville. I loved being a part of it. It was uplifting. I hope you do it again.

- I thought it was fun that we got a lot of creative freedom on how we wore and made the clothes.
- I think they loved the models’ charisma added to the walk.
- I enjoyed how much creative input I had on clothes by Candyce.

- An interesting factor in the fashion show was the variety of brands we wore as models.
- The audience seemed to enjoy the energy because everyone was having their fun while on the runway.
