CCSU Hosts Peace and Unity Event
Central Connecticut State University Office of Equity and Inclusion and Division of Student Affairs hosted a “Unity-Peace Walk” on Friday to provide, the University says, “a demonstration of support for peace around the world, starting with the Central campus.”
“The purpose of the event is to reaffirm and remind all members of the university community of Central’s commitment to being a safe and inclusive learning and working environment,” said Vice President for Equity and Inclusion Dr. Craig Wright.
The University said that Dr. Felton Best, Steven Bernstein, Father Michael Casey, and Dr. Nidal Al-Masoud spoke at the event.
President Zulma R. Toro spoke at the event, saying, “We, as human beings, can have disagreements. We can have our own ideas. But at the end of the day, it is very important that we learn how we can co-exist as a family and as a community within our institution.”
CCSU said, “Holding electronic candles, a large group of students, faculty, and staff gathered in front of Welte Auditorium at 5 p.m. and processed along a luminaria-lit path around campus.”
“Recognizing that our diversity makes us great,” said Dr. Wright, “our goal is to walk in unity and peace as one university community.”
