Lamont, Bysiewicz, Hayes, Sanchez and other Democrats Rally in New Britain Ahead of the Tuesday Primaries
Gov Ned Lamont (D), Lt Gov Susan Bysiewicz (D), Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (D-5), Mayor Bobby Sanchez (D) and other Democrats on Sunday ahead of Democratic and Republican primaries, concluding on Tuesday.
The rally as held at that Democratic Party Headquarters on Bassett Street.
Voters this year will be selecting party nominees for the upcoming State and Federal elections, with both Democratic and Republican primaries taking place. According to the sample ballots provided by the Secretary of the State, the races on the ballot in New Britain include:
- Democratic Primary for Governor: Governor Lamont (the party-endorsed incumbent) is facing a challenge from State Representative Josh Elliott (D).
- Republican Primary for Representative in Congress (5th District): Chris Shea (party-endorsed) is facing a challenge from Jonathan De Barros.
For Democratic and Republican voters who have not yet voted by mail or in early voting, polls are open on Primary Day, Tuesday, August 11, at all 17 of New Britain’s regular polling locations. Polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Voters are able to find out where their polling place is on the Secretary of the State’s Voter Registration Lookup website at https://portaldir.ct.gov/sots/LookUp.aspx. More voting information is available at the Secretary of the State’s website and at the New Britain Registrars of Voter website.
The Registrars of Voters remind residents that Same-Day Registration and voting are not permitted for primaries. However, unaffiliated voters still have until 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, to file a voter registration application in-person at the Registrars of Voters office in City Hall, Room 507, to enroll in a political party and participate in Tuesday’s primary.
