Drummond to Play at Osgood Shootout
Coach Darwin Shaw has announced that Piston center Andre Drummond will play at the upcoming Osgood Shootout Basketball Tournament.
Shaw, the Tournament’s Director, says that, in the Tournament,
Once again there will be 2 divisions. The Men’s Open Division will feature NBA All Star and Detroit Piston center Andre Drummond, who two weeks ago decided not to play for the USA World Cup team.
Shaw added that,
Teaming up with Drummond will be former Yale star Brandon Sherrod. Other players to watch will be former Quinnipiac star, Chase Daniels; Paul Harris, Syracuse; Keith Cothran and Kuran Iverson, Rhode Island; Ryen Vilmont, Franklin Pierce; Donovin Ford-Hayes, Becker College; Jerry Buchanan, the all time leading scorer in NECC history; Shay Ajay, Trinity College; Levi Gillespie and Don Jarrett, Post University; Nate Gause, Lemoye College, Brian Moore, Howard University.
Local basketball players in the Tournament, Shaw points out, include, “Roosevelt Lee, Shon Jones and Darius Watson, all former New Britain High School stars. They will be playing on different teams.”
The Men’s Open is to include teams coming from Springfield, New York, Boston, New Haven, Waterbury, Hartford and Bridgeport.
“In the high school division,” Shaw adds, “teams are entered from New Britain, Middletown, New Haven, Waterbury, West Haven, Hartford, Meriden and Windsor.”
The 2019 Osgood Shootout, will be held on Saturday, August 17th and Sunday, August 18th at New Britain High School.
“There is no cost for the games,” Shaw points out.
The scholarship benefit tournament, “New England’s Biggest Summer Men’s Basketball Tournament,” has long been known for spirited competition and for bringing the community together.
Major sponsors for the 2019 Tournament include Eblens, Imageink Inc, Stanley Black&Decker, The Tomasso Group and Blaze Barber Shop.
Shaw recently announced six scholarship recipients from the 2019 Tournament.
This year’s scholarship award recipients are Brianna Clarke, Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island; Isaiah Jenkins, Central Connecticut State University, New Britain, CT; Kevin Slisz Jr., University of Connecticut, Hartford, CT; Elijah Watson, American International College Springfield, Massachusetts. All will be awarded $500. For the fourth year the Albert A. Vieira scholarship will be awarded to Mya Stewart Tunxis Community College, Farmington, Connecticut and Valentina Hernandez, Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, Connecticut. Both will receive $250.
