CCSU Police Department Seeking Accreditation Comments

Central Connecticut State University has announced that its campus police department is seeking public comments, as part of its accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., (CALEA).

CCSU says that its police, “department was first awarded accreditation through CALEA in 1999,” adding that,

CALEA invites the public to comment and provide feedback on the Central Police Department’s ability to comply with CALEA law enforcement standards using its Accreditation Public Comment Portal. Access to this portal is provided as an opportunity for comments, commendations, and other information regarding the Central Police Department’s quality of service or other information relevant to the accreditation process.

CALEA says it,

was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority through the joint efforts of law enforcement’s major executive associations. The CALEA Accreditation program seals are reserved for use by those public safety agencies that have demonstrated compliance with CALEA Standards and have been awarded CALEA Accreditation by the Commission.

The CALEA website indicates that it has accredited a number of police departments near New Britain, including Berlin, East Hartford, Farmington, Hartford and Central Connecticut State University. But its website does not appear to list the New Britain Police Department.

CCSU says comments are invited at https://cimrs2.calea.org/358/.

The website says that,

The purpose of this public portal is to receive comments regarding an agency’s compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide the participating agency with information to support continuous improvement, as well as foster the pursuit of professional excellence.

IMPORTANT: CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes. Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgement to submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA® Accreditation.
