Incumbent Ald John McNamara (D-4) and former Ald Luz Ortiz-Luna have been nominated by Democratic voters in Ward 4 in today’s Democratic primary, a win that makes them the two candidates for Democrats for Council in Ward 4 in this November’s city election.

According to unofficial vote totals from the Secretary of the State’s office, McNamara received 194 votes and Ortiz-Luna received 161.

Incumbent Ald Neil Connors (D-4) was a petitioning candidate in the primary and received 140 votes in the unofficial total.

Each of the city’s five Council wards are represented by three Council members, called “Alderpersons”, but each party is only allowed to nominate two candidates in each ward. As in the general election, voters could only vote for two candidates in the primary.

McNamara and Ortiz-Luna, were the endorsed Democratic candidates for Council in Ward 4, after been chosen by the Democratic Town Committee.

The city’s fifteen Council members are elected from five districts, commonly called, “wards.” Each party can nominate two candidates in each ward, and the top three candidates in the general election represent the ward.

McNamara and Ortiz-Luna will face the Republicans, Ald Robert Smedley (R-4) and Norman Dorval, in the city general election.

Early voting in the city elections are October 20, 2025 to November 2nd. Election day is November 4th for anyone who has not voted by then.
