New Britain’s widely attended July 4th “Great American Boom” fireworks display, celebrating Independence Day, is planned for the 2026 celebration. The event has been moved to the city’s historic Walnut Hill Park and is to be a free event again for the first time in years, under the city’s new Mayor Bobby Sanchez (D).
The 2026 Great American Boom fireworks event has been scheduled for Saturday, July 4, 2025 in Walnut Hill Park. The city says that the event is to feature, “live entertainment, food trucks, family activities, roller skating, amusements, and a spectacular fireworks display at 9:15 PM”
An estimated 40,000 people have gathered in New Britain on July 4th in past years to view New Britain’s traditionally spectacular Independence Day fireworks display.
The event is to feature food trucks, amusements, roller skating, micro car derby racing, an obstacle course, bungee jumping, face painting, laser tag, a rock wall, clowns and a magic show.

While thousands have gathered at the park where the event is held, thousands more have historically gathered in numerous locations throughout a large swath of the city. “Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and stay for a spectacular fireworks show beginning at 9:30pm!” the city adds.
The city says that the event is from 3:00pm to until the fireworks begin. Children’s amusements wristbands are to be $10, and music is to be performed by, NBSO from 3:00pm to 4:30pm, Soul Sound Revue from 5:00pm to 6:30pm and Latanya Farrell from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
And the main event – the fireworks display – is to begin at 9:15pm.
The city says that parking is available at the, “Badolato Parking Garage (walk to event),” “Szczesny Parking Garage (walk to event)” and “Blogoslawski Parking Garage (free shuttle service available).” The city adds, “Shuttles will operate from the Blogoslawski Garage to Walnut Hill Park throughout the event.”
“Road closures and traffic restrictions around Walnut Hill Park will begin throughout the day,” the city says, “with perimeter road closures in place beginning at approximately 1:00 PM. Motorists should expect delays before and after the fireworks and are encouraged to seek alternate routes when possible.”
“Bring your family, bring your friends and celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary with us in New Britain!,” the city of New Britain has said.
